Junior Sailing Registration Announcement
Hello members! I am happy to introduce myself as the new Learn to Sail Director at CYC. I am a lifelong member of the club and, working with Rear Commodore Tim Wilde, excited to be bringing some positive change to the program this year. Please check out the newly updated Junior Sailing section on the CYC website for more information.
Most importantly, we have moved our Junior Sailing program registration online for 2018. Registration will open March 1 to Senior and Senior Family members and then as per the below guidelines (#1).
In addition to a number of positive new changes, this is in line with Sail NS’s push to have all yacht clubs using the online system for registrations. We’re confident you will love the ease with which you can now register your child or children!
You will click here to register. The link will become live on March 1. You will be required to indicate your membership category in order to proceed with registration and registrations will be referenced against membership status. Any registrations completed out of the above sequence will be refunded and you will be required to re-register at the appropriate time.
Some important things to note:
- DATES. Registration will open MARCH 1 for all Senior and Senior Family members; Senior members registering their grandchildren on March 12; and the general public on March 30. Please ensure your membership dues for 2018 have been paid. As noted above, you will be required to indicate your membership category in order to proceed with registration and registrations will be referenced against membership status. Any registrations completed out of the above sequence will be refunded and you will be required to re-register at the appropriate time.
- SAFETY. We have set interim conservative program maximums for each class. We have hired additional instructors for this season but safety for our sailors is paramount. These maximums do not mean your child will not get into your chosen session; all classes will run a waitlist and we will be admitting students on a rolling basis, as we see where children are registered, to ensure enough hulls and adherence to the Sail Canada Instructor to Student Ratios. Again, safety is our number one priority.
- SAIL CANADA LEVELS. This year, we are also aligning our program and evaluation procedure with Sail Canada guidelines. You will be asked to register your sailor according to level (and not what boat they want to sail). This ensures we are teaching properly and producing sailors with experience and knowledge equivalent to their peers at other clubs. You will be asked to indicate your preference for hulls (CANSail 1&2, Opti or Echo, and CANSail 3&4, Opti or 420), and we will always do our best to accommodate those requests. You will also be asked to indicate whether you are bringing a private hull. If you are not sure of your child’s level, please feel free to contact me.
- Please review our CYC Welcome and Parent Guide 2018 for more program information including Junior program day to day; sample activity schedule; safety rules; Sailor Code of Conduct, dates for regattas and more.
We have a number of exciting new changes in place for the 2018 season and will be rolling those out to you throughout the Spring and into the summer. Watch your Inbox, too, for an email introducing you to our fantastic instructor line up for the summer as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions at all.
Cheers to a FUN and SAFE summer on the water!
