MESSAGE FROM CYC COMMODORE RANDY STEVENS

On behalf of the members of Chester Yacht Club, I’d like to take this opportunity of thanking those firms and persons who made our Canada Day Fireworks possible.

 1)  The weatherman for the sun and postponing the rain.

2)  Kerry Keddy for making this whole thing happen.  Kerry has undertaken the raising of the funds, purchase of the fireworks, setting them up and collecting the volunteers, Paul and Rachael Whellans, Mary McCarthy and Joanne Grant.  Thanks to you all!

3)  Financial sponsors that made it happen, and all good community caring firms.  Chester Yacht Club, Nova Georgia Properties Ltd., Rope Loft with Dock Side Dining, Chester Electric, Pharmasave Chester, Mecklenburgh Inn Bed and Breakfast, Wayne Grigsby, Gold River Marine, and Hammonds Quick Way.

 MARBLEHEAD RACE 2013

The Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race is about to begin Sunday, July 7, 2013 off Tinkers Gong. I’m pleased to say Chester Yacht Club has two boats registered for the race, and we all would wish them fair winds and good seas:

MacIntosh, a custom sloop skippered by Durk Steigenga.  MacIntosh and Durk are regular Thursday night racers and a proven and knowledgeable ocean racer.  Good luck and we look forward to your safe return.

Agincourt, a N.M 43 Skippered by ocean racing veteran Bob Cragg.  “Bobby” as he is known, is no rookie when it comes to long ocean races.  Bobby has been successfully competing in the Marblehead Race for decades, along with every other major ocean race in the eastern seaboard.  Good luck to the skipper and crew.

Ceilidh, my C&C 39, is preparing to set sail for Charlottetown Race Week.  Ceilidh is leaving July 13th to represent CYC at Race Week.  Charlottetown has always supported Chester Race Week, as CYC has supported Charlottetown.  Ceilidh is crewed by CYC members Graham Watson, Keith Campbell, Gary Forsyth, AYC member Ken Bell, and yours truly, Randy Stevens.

COMMODORE’S BBQ AND DANCE   JULY 26, 2013

As you have noticed, there has been a slight change in the format of the Commodore’s Dinner and Dance.  It was an executive decision to have the event less formal, less expensive, but as much fun.  We will have a great BBQ menu and have invited Bruce Vickery’s Band “Rasta Gumbo” to play that night.  It is the wish of the executive for you to come down, enjoy the evening and make sure to invite your friends, the more the merrier.
