2016 Regatta of the Year Award:

The following was the presentation for Regatta of the Year Award:

Held over four days every August Chester Race Week has quickly become Canada’s largest keelboat Regatta and one of the most anticipated sailing events every year across North America. Attracting 123 sailboats and more than 1200 sailors Chester Race Week 2016 is very deserving of our 2016 Regatta of the Year award.

Canadian Yachting magazine describes Race Week the following way:

Perhaps one of the world’s best kept secrets is Chester Race Week, held in Chester, Nova Scotia, just a stone’s throw away from the bustling metropolis of Halifax. Chester Race Week has been sailing since 1856 and in recent summers has had consistent entries of 130-150 yachts.

At the end of every Chester Race Week competitors are asked to complete a short survey. Here are some of the comments received after this year’s regatta:

– No Regatta is perfect but in my experience having raced in many locations in North America and Europe, Chester Yacht Club does an excellent job and the conditions are terrific. Race Week is one of the top regattas in the world.

– Raced fast and had fun. Great job to all. The Event gets better every year.

In truth, Race Week Organizers do a damn good job putting on good racing and evening entertainment. So, I don’t really think that there is much room for improvement, and I’m pleased with what the club, staff, officers and volunteers do to make Race Week such a success.

And our favorite:  It’s Christmas in August!

Congratulations to everyone associated with Chester Race Week!

The award was presented by Sail NS Board Director Andre Corkum and accepting the award was Chester Yacht Club Commodore John Curry and Chester Race Week Chair Sara Filbee.
